The Men’s Village Cup Tournament Committee Meeting 4/16/2024

The Men’s Village Cup Tournament Committee met and several issues were decided that they would like to pass on to potential participants of the October tournament.

Signups will begin on August 1st with the 8 Captains receiving the list prior to the player draft on Monday, September 9th. Captains are allowed to preselect 5 players prior to the draft with the remaining 8 or 10 players being selected at the draft.

This year players will be allowed to sign up as Gold, Blue, White or Green tee players. If 16 Gold tee players are not signed up, those players will be given the opportunity to move to the Blue tees or withdraw from the tournament.

All players who sign up for the tournament must be sure they can participate all six days. If they can’t and need to have a substitute play for them, they cannot return to their team as a regular player and will be placed on the substitute list. The substitute will become a player on the team for the remainder of the tournament.

Captains will be asked to poll their players at the kickoff banquet for those interested in being a substitute if eliminated during the first week. The Tournament Committee will maintain a list of all players by tee and handicap index to insure that player of the same tee and handicap range are selected to substitute for those missing players. Captains will go through the committee to obtain subs.

All players must have Villages Handicaps to participate in the tournament. Any player who has been put on probation by the Village Handicap Committee will play at their lowest handicap index from the previous year. Any player who has been removed of their handicap by the Village Handicap Committee will be allowed to play but at a “0” handicap index.

Stay tuned for more information on the tournament to come.

The Men’s Village Cup Tournament Committee Meeting 6/18/2024

The Men's Village Cup Committee met on June 18th. The following was discussed and agreed upon

The Meet & Greet Dinner will be held on September 17th at the Rohan Rec Center beginning at 6pm. Participants are advised to bring their own beverages as there will be no complimentary drinks provided as was done last year.

A 50/50 raffle will be held at the dinner along with the drawing of several door prizes.

Also, the First Tee of Orlando will be present to take any golf related equipment that tournament participants would like to donate.

At the request of The Villages Golf Department, all participants MUST have a Villages Handicap, not just a USGA Handicap. Those wishing to participate must have one prior to the beginning of play on October 7th.

All participants will be reviewed for handicap compliance immediately upon the close of signups. Those not in compliance will be contacted by the Village Handicap committee to get into compliance.

Substitutions this year will be monitored and directed by the Men's Village Cup Tournament Committee. Captains will be provided a list of all players who have signed up for the tournament and who have agreed to be substitutes. The list will include all players who have been eliminated during the first week of play. The list will be sorted by Tee group and Handicap Index. A substitute should be selected from the list who are from the same tee group and are with the closest handicap index as the missing player.

This year players on the 1st and 2nd place teams will receive Villages Golf Shop Credits along with the 1st Place and Runner-Up Medals. Additionally, the individual player scoring the most points during the final week of play will receive an MVP Award and receive a Village Golf Shop Credit.

The committee urges all players to sign up for the tournament as soon as possible after the 1st of August..

Tournament Update as of 9/11/2024

The teams are set! You all should have heard from your captains by now letting you know what team you are on! Congratulations and good luck!

Meet and Greet Banquet:

Tuesday, September 17th at Rohan Recreation Center at 6:00pm. This year the dinner will be catered by one of the finest restaurants around the Villages, Oakwood Steakhouse and Grill. Also be aware that this year there will be no beer service so it will be a BYOB event (bring your own “beverages”). Please let your captain know if you are not attending the Meet and Greet.

First Tee of Orlando:

Like last year, the First Tee of Orlando will be present at Rohan to accept any used golf equipment for their program. Last year Men’s Village Cup Players donated a considerable amount of equipment to this cause. It’s hoped that we can do the same of better this year. So, clean out your garages with any old golf stuff and bring it the dinner. Their van will be outside the main entrance.

Substitutes:

This year we are handling the substitute process a bit differently than has been done in the past. There are 7 players who didn’t sign up in time to be considered for a place on team and 8 players who have signed up to be a substitute during week 1 of the tournament. If subs are needed during week 1 they will be taken from this list. We have Blue, White and Green tee players available.

For the 2nd week of the tournament, we will be asking all players from the 4 teams eliminated during week 1 if they would be willing to be on a substitute list. Eliminated players will be given top priority for substitutions during week 2. Captains will contact the Committee Member and provide a list of players from the same tee group as the missing player and handicap indexes closest to that player.

At the Meet and Greet Banquet, we are asking all captains to poll their teams to see which players would be willing to substitute on week 2, “IF” their team is eliminated.

Tournament Prizes:

This year the Men’s Village Cup Tournament Committee has agreed to award prizes other than just the Championship and Runner-Up Medallions. Each player on the 1st and 2nd place teams will receive Golf Shop Credits that can be used at any of The Villages Golf Pro Shops. In the event that substitutes participate, they too will share in the Golf Shop Credits. We will prorate the prize between the substitute and the original player.

Additionally, a special award will be given to the individual player who scores the most points for his team during week 2. The MVP Award will also be a Golf Shop Credit.
